The film is set in the Soviet Union during Stalin's brutal purges in the 1930s. The young and dutiful state prosecutor Alexander Kornev receives a letter written in blood from a prisoner who claims to have been innocently convicted by the regime. Driven by conscience and idealism, he visits the prison and demands answers, but the investigation draws him ever deeper into a closed and threatening apparatus of power characterized by fear, lies, corruption and indiscriminate violence. Through intense encounters with guards, bureaucrats and NKVD agents, his ideals, courage and safety are put at risk. Two Prosecutors is a dark and thought-provoking drama about loyalty, courage, naivety and the price of believing in justice in a totalitarian regime.
