Balancing french cuisine and old traditions
This is a warm, bittersweet French comedy-drama from debut filmmaker Amine Adjina, following Mehdi, a young French-Algerian chef balancing two worlds. While running a bistro in Lyon with his girlfriend Léa, he hides his romance and love of French gastronomy from his traditional mother, Fatima, for fear of rejection. When Léa insists on finally meeting Fatima, Mehdi panics and hatches an unlikely plan – he persuades a charismatic bar owner to pose as his mother, setting off a cascade of comic misunderstandings and hilarious revelations. The ingredients of the film are juicy family secrets and culinary passion. Spices and Lies is a charming dish from France.
