An intimate, Palestinian family drama that depicts pain, resistance and history
The family chronicle All That's Left of You depicts the Al-Nakba in 1948, when over 750,000 Palestinians were displaced from their homes in what became the state of Israel, and many lost their lives during the following war. We follow a family of orange growers in Jaffa, whose secure middle-class life gradually collapses and is replaced by insecurity and flight in the West Bank. In 1967, Israel's control tightens further, before the uprising in 1988 leads to a new tragedy for the family. Director and actor Cherien Dabis conveys Palestinian history in a close way, which can be experienced as more accessible to a Western audience than war films. With high production values, strong character interpretations and a solid narrative pace, the film emerges as a gripping and important historical drama.
