A lyrical generational drama where past and present seep through the walls
Hypnotic and visually striking about four generations of women on an isolated farm. Through four eras that blend into each other, a pattern of oppression emerges. Shame and expectations are inherited. The women live different lives, but share the experience of being shaped by gazes, demands and frames they themselves have not chosen.
It simmers beneath the surface and the film examines how the past settles in the body and soul, and what happens when what was never said continues to resonate through generations. The narrative is carried by a sensual expression and an artistically innovative film language.
Director Mascha Schilinski creates an atmosphere that is both disturbing and poignant. The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
