David B. Berget's feature film debut Agnes Against the World will be given the honor of opening the very first edition of the Norwegian Film Festival Stavanger, which will take place from March 12 to 15.

The actors Marie Blokhus and Nader Khademi as well as producer Annie Feldsott will be joining director Berget on the red carpet.

- We are very excited to open the very first festival in Stavanger with Agnes Against the World! This is both a funny and moving film, with very strong acting performances from an environment we rarely see on film, and which here gets a warm and generous portrayal, says festival and program manager Tonje Hardersen.

- It is incredibly big for us to open the very first edition of the Norwegian Film Festival Stavanger. Being able to participate and set the tone for a completely new film festival in Norway, and doing so with Agnes Against the World, means a lot. The film was made with a strong desire to give voice to people living on the margins of society, and to be able to present it in a city with an engaged audience and a clear film culture feels both right and meaningful, say director Berget and producer Annie.

Agnes Against the World

The film's title character Agnes Birkeland (Marie Blokhus) is a steadfast woman with strong opinions and an indomitable drive, but several years of alcohol and drugs have left deep marks on both body and mind. She once had a happy marriage to successful investor Julius Helvig (Anders Baasmo), but when her daughter Leah, 10, is inexplicably relocated by child welfare, everything falls apart. Agnes finds solace in drugs, and as a homeless occupant of Ekeberg Sculpture Park, she starts the day with brushing her teeth and amphetamines before, together with her kind-hearted companion Hansi (Nader Khademi), she sets out on the day's errands of selling homemade liquor and an eternal fight against child welfare and the world in general.

An audience festival for the whole city

March 12th – 15th, the first ever Norwegian Film Festival Stavanger will be held, which will become an annual audience festival. The festival is being organized in close collaboration with ODEON cinema Stavanger/Sandnes, and builds on the experiences and brand from the Norwegian Film Festival in Haugesund, and will combine international quality, regional roots and great audience experiences – right in the middle of the city.
